Welcome to Amy's Herbal Apothecary! I am glad to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself and how and why this whole thing started. I have had an interest in herbs since high school where I was introduced to Chamomile tea for anxiety. After that, I worked a lot of service industry jobs, and customer service. Jobs that didn't provide health care. I ended up using my fascination with the herbal world to keep myself strong and healthy because going to the doctor was out of the question.
Speed things up a bit, a few years ago, I found myself in a deep depression. I was gaining weight, sitting around on my computer playing games and generally just wallowing in self-pity. In 2015, at the age of 47, I had enough. It was time to pull myself together. My father was dying and needed me, I was tired of my own self, I needed to get off my butt. So, for my 47th birthday, I asked for a dance class as a gift, and started taking beginning ballet that September.
Taking ballet is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Not only am I stronger and healthier than I have ever been in my life, but I have learned self-discipline, focus and a self-awareness I am not sure I would have found anywhere else. Last year I took up Aerial Hammock and Silks and I am pushing my body as hard as I can.
Needless to say, at 50 my body doesn't bounce back the same way it did at 20. I am constantly amazed at how much it will do, but I get sore. That is how the muscle rub was born. It started off with me copying a friends recipe. The girls at aerial class found out I was making it and wanted some as well. They also asked if I could make up something to ease fabric burns from aerial class, so along came the Ouch! Ointment. I kept getting asked for items I was making and I had ordered too many herbs, so, I thought, what about going into business.
My father had died and left me a little money. Not the OMG I'm rich! kind of money, but the, Thank God I can get out of debt! kind of money. With a little left over to invest. I had been a caregiver for an elderly woman for the previous 6 years, but she passed as well and I was going to have to look for a job if I was going to continue all my fun classes. I was also in danger of blowing my savings, I needed to invest, but I am not sure I like the market right now. I couldn't decide. Ultimately, I decided to invest in myself.
I was sitting one day, making some basic labels for product I was making for my classmates when I was putting an email address on and wondered if I had a business, what would I want to call it. Amy's Herbal Apothecary, was the first thing that came to mind. Then I went to see if I could get that g-mail address. Sure enough, then the domain name. Done. It all just kind of fell into place. Until we have what you see today.
This whole project has been a wonderful, whirlwind, adventure. I welcome you to join in. Discover the fantastic world of herbal salves and enjoy!
